2017 Halloween Glow in the Dark Nails!

Hi! Hello!

Long time, no posts. There were some things that called me on a different path for a while so thank you to those who are still with me! 

So, just because I can and it is that time of year I am going say it, I'm baaaack!!!!

Are you guys ready for some fantastic nail art?

So, I had a request for glow in the dark nails and purple. When you get asked by a small child to do something, spooky, fun and get specific color requests....politely. It's kind of necessary to appease the child and do it. 

Per the usual I will be posting pictures and showing steps at to how this look came out!

Let's get down to this!

Here is the completed look.

First you want to of course gather the items that you will need to complete this look which include, but are not limited to: 

L.A. Colors Ultra Nail Hardener

L.A. Colors CNP417 Nuclear Energy (Purple)

L.A. Colors CNP691 Midnight (Black with HOLO!)

L.A. Colors Art Deco with big and small glitters (the name wore off)

Makeup sponges (I use those that are non-latex)

Glow in the dark nail polish (I bought these at Dollar Tree)

Glossy Top Coat

Start of course with your Ultra Nail Hardener, this is a base coat which with how often a child smacks around their hands... They need it as badly as those who nails don't hold up well in multiple weather changes. Moving on, once that has dried, took less than 2 minutes which is a win, because let's be honest unless you have a super patient child, they are going to smudge that already. 

Second grab your sponges and your purple and black holo!!! (TIP:: if you want it to appear even more opaque I would put a coat of the purple polish down before moving onto this step.) Start by putting half black and half purple on the sponge and DAB that over the nail to create a gradient. I had to go back over each nail twice but since this nail polish dries super quick, it wasn't an issue and still reached an opaqueness that was suitable.

After that has dried (5 minutes or less depending on how humid it is in your home) then it is time to move onto the HOLO!! Now for this, I contemplated using the sponge again but decided against it. Starting at about halfway up the nail I drug the brush to the tip of the nail. This added more holo at the tip and made it seem more gradual and as she put it "like there are stars on my nails!" Yes, I do realize this could be stopped there and you have a starry night. You thought that too right?

So, after that had dried had to to some major clean up around the cuticles. Additionally, I could have used a barrier but when you have a kid who likes to be pampered... she sat still for all of it! So, I took advantage because we were also talking.

With it being October, there has to be a SPOOK-y factor!!

Last two steps included this. I alternated the white and pink glow in the dark. (Very specific request). I simply put one coat on each nail and let that dry, which took less than 4 minutes and just a forewarning, this nail polish does have a smell to it that if you're not expecting the smell of will be off-putting. To finish the look of course had to put a glossy top coat to seal it all in.

(TIP:: If you want to just do your nails in the glow in the dark you may have to do several coats to make it opaque, it is VERY see through doesn't matter the tint.)

I liked creating this and was able to get some feedback from the 7-year-old who requested it. She loves it as do I. We tried to get a picture of them glowing in the dark, which works standard hold it up to light and it will GLOW, the camera literally would not focus and didn't know what to do!

When the New Year Hits

    Hello all, the new year has started, last month, and I have been playing around more with buying different kinds of polish and looking for some elegant and funky ways to express. This has been one of my favorites so far, this simple nail design is just that and can be accomplished with many different colors to chevron.
    Starting I tried a new base coat, It is L.A. Colors Superstrength Nail Builder. Allow that to dry and  apply a second coat, here is why, I also taped off my nail to create the chevron and did not want that gross peel up. This base coat dries super fast and compliments with the fact that sometimes, I have other things I want to get done before three hours have gone by, yes, I have spent that long on a nail art.
    Secondly, if you have the chevron peels try to center those on the crescent of your nail, if you don't, as you can see mine were close but not all perfect, don't sweat it, It is nail art and if anyone asks say it was expressive nail painting. As you can see I pointed the chevron outward towards the tip of the nail from thumb to ring-finger and on the pinkies inverted for a different look. If you need to you can also use tape, just make sure you have straight 90 degree angles and that you have taken some of the sticky-ness away by sticking it to a table a time or two or against your skin so oils dilute the potency of the adhesive.
    Next I applied wet n wild's 4850 Black Creme/Creme Noir to the tips above the chevron, I only needed one coat of this as it is fairly opaque. After each nail, I used pointed tweezers to quickly and carefully pull off the peels. Once that layer has fully dried & all peels removed it is onto the final two steps.
    Now, the shiny glorious sparkle that is on the whole nail is Salon Perfect's 613 Cosmic Dust. This nail polish is also labeled as a top coat, so if you choose you really can stop there but I wanted the shiny to stay shiny and sometimes with glitter/holographic colors the shiny part can feel weird to the touch. I allowed this to dry fully and wasn't disappointed and probably should have just stopped there, but I didn't I finished this nail design with L.A. Colors Rapid Dry Top Coat.
    With all of that awesomeness who can resist? So wear your nails with pride and yes, this nail design is black and sparkly but can be worn, just because. Have a fantastic week and will be back soon!

Simple Lisa Frank Nail Art

When you find yourself with the start of the  school year and are reminded of the fun things like backpacks, school books, folders and stickers.... looking through the school aisles, I thought to myself, why not create something that reminds of those simpler times?
I decided to create simple Lisa Frank nails. For this, you'll need a base coat, small stickers, two sparkly colors, ( I chose purple & a clear sparkle), and a top coat.
Start with your base coat, let that dry, and I chose to separate my two colors with a guide, except for my pinkies, on top I painted my purple shimmer, peeled of the guides while the purple was still wet. Let that dry. Then I went over all my fingers with the clear shimmer. Once that dried it was time to add the Lisa Frank stickers. I chose to place them where the two colors met and on the pinkies in the same location to add some sense of pattern. Once those are placed securely make sure to press down to where there are no folds or creases, then add a fast dry top coat. And for good measure once that dries add a second layer to secure the stickers and you're done!

Valentine's Day 2015

            With Valentine's Day tomorrow, I figured I should probably post one of the nail arts I did this month. I would love to do that however, I am experiencing technical difficulties with the upload not working for some reason, I am unable to. So, instead I will post a picture or two of my nail designs for Valentine's Day on the Facebook page and answer any questions on how I completed those looks. Gallbladder/Bile Duct Cancer Awareness

Now, we all know cancer can be a nasty foe. However, the more you know the more you grow. As I stated in my last post, which I do apologize for being absent, I will be going through the different awareness for each month. Thank you for bearing with me and today I will be posting two tutorials for February's cancer awareness. The color of the month is Kelly Green.

This look was achieved very simply with a clear nail polish, nail striper nail polish, gems, and a top coat. The color used for the green is Kelly Green. It is a shade lighter and not as neon as Lime Green. Begin with your base coat to protect your natural nail. After that has dried apply a thin line at the top of your nail right under the line created by your over hang, if you have short nails you can create the crescent shape a little above halfway up the nail. Then fill in with your striper polish. Once that has dried, apply a top coat and grab your gems and place them in the middle of the nail crescent on the bottom part of the nail. Then apply another layer of top coat to secure your green gems. Voila, this look is complete and simple. I was unable to find Kelly Green gems otherwise I would have used those.

For this look, I did use Kelly Green however due to my pants and that my base color was white it made it pop and look more like Lime Green. Still, moving forward. What you will need is of course base and top coat, green glitter, green gems, white polish, kelly green acrylic paint, and possibly tape. Start off with your base coat to protect your natural nail. Next apply your base color of white. You may need to apply two coats to ensure opacity. After that has dried, from thumb to ring finger create a chevron shape closer to the cuticle. You can achieve this with a striper brush and paint or feel free to tape off. Fill in with your kelly green to the tip. While that is drying apply a top coat to the pinkies and sprinkle on your green glitter, go a little crazy with it. While that is drying apply a top coat to the other four fingers and apply your green gems. Allow all your nails time to dry and apply another layer of top coat to seal in your design and you are done!

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. In view of this there are two nail designs I am sharing with you all this week. Both are going in sequence of how I achieved this look. There are two colors for Cervical Cancer they are teal and white. I chose a very simple design to incorporate these two colors as evenly as possible on the first look. In the second design, I changed it just slightly but I think it too looks great. I received many compliments on these nails. Do apologize for the absenteeism the holidays this year were a little bit crazier than normal. Then again, what is normal? However, due to this I will be making a two-fer post. Meaning two different looks on one post. Enjoy!

The first is self explanatory as I made sure to do it in steps. Sort of, I meant to do more steps and got wrapped up in how nice it looked. Yes, this will happen from time-to-time. Start by applying your base coat to protect your natural nail. Once that has dried apply semi-sticky tape, (applying it to your skin about 3 times before placing it), on your nail. These I cut while my base coat was drying. Next find the three polishes your would like to have on your toes. I chose pink, blue and purple.  (To make these colors pop more place a thin coat of white nail polish.) I chose to alternate these colors to make my toes colorful and it seemed like a great way to start off the new year. Before the nail polish dries completely remove the tape as to not have any unclean lines. Lastly find a sparkly polish and just apply to the area of the nail where the tape was covering and if you do have any unseemly lines, this will also help to make them less noticeable. Apply your top coat and you are done, your toes look cute and even though the weather may not call for open toed shoes, you have just pampered yourself. 

Onto the next look:

These I chose the same color palette as the toes. Only I did handle these a little different. Start with your base coat and instead of covering the very tips with the tape I essentially cut the nails in half making the top color cover most of the free margin of your nail. If you do not have a free margin just split it in the middle of the nail. Next apply your colors, starting with the bottom color first. I found it easier to leave the lids unscrewed as I did this. I started with pink, then blue then purple. As I finished one nail I removed the tape and went onto the next nail making sure to pay attention to which color I left off with. When that was complete on one hand I mirrored on the opposite hand. Now, as that dried I applied my glitter polish to the "vacant" area where the tape had been. Finishing with a top coat you are done and you have some fantastic nails to start off your new year!
